How pipe re-rounding works
Pitch-fibre pipes were popular between the '50s and '70s in the UK, as they were cheaper than their clay counterparts. However, these pipes are now well past their design life and frequently cause problems.
Typically, the pipes deform (get 'squashed') or collapse with age and can require digging up and complete replacement. Where practical, however, we can use ingenious re-rounding technology to minimise the cost and impact of corrective work on pitch-fibre pipe runs.
- A special re-rounding tool is mechanically drawn through the pipe, expanding deformed sections back into the correct shape
- Immediately afterward, the pipe is given a new, rigid lining to provide a permanent repair
Re-rounding is not always the best answer. But if it makes sense, we have the technology to do it.
