Modern sewage treatment plants are designed to handle basic domestic sewage without problems, as if the household were connected to mains drainage. A well-designed treatment plant employs a managed system to ‘cultivate’ and optimise the growth of aerobic bacteria, which in turn leads to a consistently high quality of effluent.
It’s important to remember that your sewage treatment plant is planned and installed around a certain biological ‘loading.’ If you use, or plan to use, equipment such as a kitchen waste disposal unit (which increases the loading on the system), it’s important to have this factored into the selection of your sewage treatment plant.
